Energy: Regular Monitoring
Intent:
This year, the Eco Team have decided that we want to reduce the amount of energy we use in school. In order to do this, we are going to start small with regular monitoring. We aim to reduce the amount of electricity we use in school through monitoring that electronics are turned off when not in use, particularly during non-teaching times such as break and lunchtimes. We also plan to use Energy Sparks to help up monitor energy use in school, and see if our campaign to switch off items when not in use has an impacting in helping to reduce our energy use as a school.
Implementation:
In order to complete regular monitoring, some of the eco team will be checking every classroom in school at least once a week during break and lunchtime to see if both staff and pupils are ensuring electricals are switched off when not in use e.g. lights and IWBs turned off when nobody in the classroom. To assist with this, it has been suggested that each class should have an eco-monitor, who checks these items are turned off as everyone leaves the room – this could be a member of the eco team or a different member of the class. Some of the team have created posters that have been put up in each classroom and around the school building to encourage both pupils and staff to think about not wasting energy.
