Energy
Intent: We aim to monitor the use of electricity regularly by making sure lights and monitors are off when rooms are not being used. We also aim to have a ‘switch off’ day which will include a ‘no electricity Mass’.
Implementation: We have been monitoring the turning off of lights when we leave for assembly- the eco leaders in each room will check this has been done and posters remind us to do this. Our caretaker also checks at the end of day that unnecessary plugs are turned off / lights are off. Our IWB are now on a stand-by timer and go into ‘energy saving mode’ over lunch / periods of non-use.
Impact: Less energy being used, staff are more mindful of the energy they are using, children are aware of the need to turn off electricity when not in use and helping to monitor it. Pupils hold staff accountable for the energy they are using – many remark on the need to turn lights off when it is sunny outside.
Further actions: We would like to further this by having an ‘unplugged’ liturgy in the last weeks of term. This will be around the theme of ‘stewards of creation’ to draw attention to the need to look after God’s world and will emphasise this by being unplugged in itself. Next year, we would like to make this an unplugged mass!
