Energy
Intent: We are going to take part in the Great Big Switch Off Fortnight starting on November 13th 2023. We will promote the event in our assembly and will encourage people to make sure that they are turning off lights, whiteboards and computers every breaktime and lunchtime. Our inspectors will go round and decide which class is doing the best job. We will also take electricity meter readings to measure how much energy we are saving.
Implementation: We launched our Great Big Switch off with an assembly all about the event. We reminded the whole school about why it is important to not waste energy and what they can do in their classrooms to save energy. We set up a rota for which days each of our Eco Warriors were going to be “inspecting” the classrooms to see which one is saving the most energy. Each class was given a score every break and lunch time based on the criteria. When the event was over, the class with the highest score won the Most Eco Class award which was given out in our celebration assembly on the Friday.
Impact: The school saw a marked decrease in their energy bills during the event. People were more aware of turning off lights and screens when not in use and children were reminding the adults. The children are more aware of their role in saving the planet and are using their knowledge of energy wastage to save energy at home and remind their families to switch off lights, plugs and screens when not in use.
