Fungi project
Food and Nature
St Martins eco students are working on a fungi project. Students are learning about the different types of fungi and their roles in ecosystems and their ecological significance in nutrient cycling and decomposition.
During our school grounds litter pick, we didn’t find much rubbish, however on the verge of our school ground, we have found some lovely fungi specimen (please see the photos). This gave us an opportunity to discuss the interconnectedness of fungi with other organisms and the importance of preserving habitats for fungi.
In July students will be involved in hands on activities as well, they will be planting out their own oyster mushrooms in a soil medium and hopefully harvesting them few weeks later.
As a final part of the project students will create an educational posters about their favourite fungi. These will be displayed in the school and at our Eco Fair for all of the students to view and read and study.
