Nature; plants and animals 25/26
Intent – Wildlife, We will plant wildflowers and pollinator friendly plants in the school grounds, including the new planters to encourage a healthy ecosystem. We will design and build bird nesting boxes. Check and maintain the bug houses we built last year. Build and hang up bird feeders to support birds in the winter.
Implementation – 8/9/25 Today, we sowed wildflower seeds in the margins of the school field. We measured and marked out the boundaries of our 3 bed rotation system and then spent ten minutes weeding the prayer garden.
22/9/25
We tidied and weeded the planters and the prayer garden. Then we moved the new benches to the sides of the prayer garden so that people can spend some quiet time with God.
9.3.26
We demolished the old rotten planters that were dangerous and falling to bits – very carefully – and reclaimed the soil, gravel and bulbs to use in other parts of the schoolgrounds. We broke up the soil and saved it so that we can use it in the new raised beds. We found loads of bulbs that we replanted to make the playground beautiful.
13.4/26
The raised bed kits finally arrived! They were a month late so we have to work really hard to get them ready for growing. We worked in 4 teams to build the beds. For most of the new members, it was the first time that they had ever used tools and they did really well, keeping everyone safe and following the instruction booklet carefully.
Impact – We have been able to show upcycling and recycling of our materials and resources and the only thing we have not had time to do due to additional labour time for most of our Why is the bord boxes but we will be putting them into next years plan as a priority.
