Our Food Mission

Intent: We want to raise awareness within our school and community of how the cost of living crisis is affecting people and cause many to love in food poverty. As part of our solution, we would like to collect food to support a local food bank.
Implementation: We used a school assembly to tell the school all about our Food project. We included what food poverty meant and how many people are affected by it. We told them all about different food banks that try to help those in food poverty and more specifically, Fairshare which is our closest food bank. We were able to tell pupils which food stuffs were most needed and set up a collection point. In addition, a message was sent out via ClassDojo to invite parents to contribute.
Impact: Through our detailed assembly, all children at St John Fisher were introduced to the term food poverty and how more and more people of all ages are faced with not enough to food to eat. This linked really well to our understanding of how God made our world for all of us. By trying to help those who are less well off, we are helping to make God’s world fairer so we can all enjoy it. Over the few weeks between introducing our foodbank collection point we have collected lots of different food items which will be donated to Fairshare before the end of term. Children have begun to realise that we, as a school, can help those who are less well off.
