St Winefride’s Food Mission
Intent– We plan on raising money throughout the year for CAFOD. Once we have reached our total, our eco-team, in consultation with the rest of the school, will choose food themed gifts from their website. Depending on how much money is raised, we have our eyes on: a vegetable garden, a super soup kitchen, chirpy chickens and build a greenhouse.
Implementation–
After raising lots of money through our KS2 bake sale, we sat down and decided which of the CAFOD food gifts we wanted to spend the money on. We decided on buying a goat for a family in the developing world so that they could use the milk (12 pints a week apparently!) to supplement their income if they wish. Goats are also very easy to look after and are easy to breed. They will also provide fertiliser to crops. We also bought a queen bee that can start her own colony. These pollinators are not only great for the environment, but the honey can be sold for cash and to support families to grow their farms. https://worldgifts.cafod.org.uk
Impact–
“Sharing food is extremely important as there are people who are less fortunate than us who do not get the same amount to eat. Everyone should be able to be safe knowing where their next meal is coming from” (Warren, 10)
“Share food and don’t let people go hungry- split food evenly and no-one will starve” (Liam, 10)
